The Associated Equipment Co. Ltd. was established in 1912 to produce omnibuses primarily for the General Omnibus Co Ltd. The company was most noted for its 34-seat doubledeck open-top vehicles, offering a 32.7 hp, 4-cylinder engine or a 28.9 hp petrol engine. These vehicles featured wood and steel framed chassis. In 1915, an experimental single-deck vehicle with an all-steel chassis appeared. And, during World War I, AEC produced over 10,000 3/4-ton trucks, making the company the largest British supplier of "subsidy" vehicles.
In 1922 AEC introduced its NS or 405 model with a 35 bhp, S-type engine and a pressed-steel chassis frame. This new frame allowed for lower overall height and better manueverability. Only six of these new trolley buses were built. And one of these rare vehicles has been re-created - from the 14 seats on the upper deck to the "Watch Your Step" warning that greeted every passenger by Matchbox Collectibles.
